Graham Cutler and Tony Gross met as optometry students in 1956. By the late sixties, they had grown frustrated with the dull, conservative eyewear available in Britain — and decided to design their own. The first Cutler and Gross collection was a quiet revolution: oversized, sculptural, unapologetically distinctive at a time when spectacles were treated as medical apparatus rather than fashion.

Five decades later, the house remains family-led and creatively uncompromised. Every Cutler and Gross frame is still made by hand in the company’s own atelier in the Cadore Valley of northern Italy — a region known for generations of frame-making craft. Each pair passes through more than fifty stages before it leaves the workshop, hand-polished by artisans who have spent their entire careers shaping acetate.
